FREE Basics of ERISA

Sponsored by Bank of Arizona and the

Phoenix Chapter of Western Pension and Benefits Council

In today’s ever-changing regulatory environment, it is critically important for HR and Benefits professionals to be well informed about the basic requirements of ERISA, including their own fiduciary responsibilities, and how to ensure organizational compliance. Knowing the standards, rules, and requirements helps protect your organization from costly penalties and time-consuming problems. The Phoenix Chapter of Western Pension and Benefits Council is pleased to invite you to join us for an informative workshop on ERISA Basics on March 21, 2018, from 8:00-10:00am.

Session 1 – Disclosures, Notices, and Filing Requirements for your Retirement Plan

ERISA requires certain communications to participants as well as regulating government agencies, each with its own particular requirements. Theresa Conti, President of Sunwest Pensions, will clarify the various disclosures and notices to be provided to your employees along with the deadlines throughout the year to provide the notices. She will also discuss other retirement plan deadlines and filing requirements.

Session 2 – Fiduciary Duties and Liabilities: Identifying Plan Fiduciaries and Avoiding Pitfalls

ERISA identifies who qualifies as a fiduciary with respect to the plan and sets certain standards for those fiduciaries. This session, presented by Ryan Curtis and Kristi Lundstrom of Fennemore Craig, will provide an overview of those duties and responsibilities and discuss tips on how to best serve the Plan and fulfill your fiduciary duties. It will also address how the actions of other fiduciaries can affect you and the importance of understanding the plan and compliance with legal requirements.
